We’ve been teasing it for a while now but the Delta Society is thrilled to officially announce that Kitty Flanagan and her loveable sidekick Henry will be our new ambassadors.
Kitty Flanagan is best known for her career in the entertainment industry, most notably as an internationally successful stand-up comedian. And her regular appearances on TV have made her a household name from sketch shows right up to her hilarious turn as a social commentator on Network Ten’s ‘The Project’ every Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, Henry is best known as Kitty’s unbelievably cute and loyal dog and he has just recently passed his assessment as a Delta Therapy Dog with flying colours.
“It was a match made in heaven from the very beginning,” says Delta’s General Manager, Hollee Curran. “Kitty is not only charming, funny, and generous, but she’s a well-known animal lover. Henry is also the perfect canine sidekick – he is cuddly, likes to show off, and is generally obedient. And just like all dogs, he can be very cheeky which cheers people up and makes them laugh. Together they make a crack team and are the perfect ambassadors for Delta.”
As ambassador Kitty will help the Delta Society to spread the word and promote our heart warming charitable programs including Delta Therapy Dogs™, Delta Classroom Canines™ and Delta Dog Safe™. Delta desperately needs funds to ensure that we can continue to bring the joys of animal companionship to those who need it most and Kitty will be instrumental in helping to raise both funds and awareness.
"Dogs have a powerful effect on people," says Kitty. "Henry is genuinely thrilled to see me every single time I come home which makes me laugh ‘cos I’m really not worthy of such a celebration. But that’s what dogs do: they make you feel special. Delta has long recognised this bond between people and dogs. That’s why their programs are so successful and why I wanted to be part of their team."
Kitty is particularly fond of Delta’s Classroom Canine’s program which uses the principles of dog therapy to assist children with reading difficulties.
"Classroom Canines is the program that brings a tear to my eye every time,” she says. “The reason it works so well is because it gets children excited about reading and writing which is half the battle. The dogs inspire the kids but they also have a calming presence so the children relax and don’t stress about ‘getting it right’. No dog has ever turned around to a child and said: “Hey! That’s wrong, dummy!” And that’s why the kids love reading to them. Dogs don’t judge. We could all learn a lot from the classroom canines!"
Kitty is currently focused on her successful stand-up tour, ‘Hello Kitty Flanagan’, but she will be spending time helping to promote Delta’s work and will also start putting Henry to work doing what he does best – spreading the love as our newest celebrity Delta Therapy Dog.
