Hello fellow pet parents. By now we are well and truly in the middle of winter, and certainly the Vetico team (2-legged & 4-legged varieties included) are feeling the cold. Last month, we had a very engaged community, with the discussing focused for the month on "Pets in Winter".
There were blogs discussing all the new winter fashion accessories for your pets, games and activities to play with your pooch in the cooler winter months, and topical discussions on our forums about leaving your pet outside overnight, and the effectiveness of neutroceuticals and supplements to treat arthritis.
Our news team bought us up to date with all the latest pet news, including welfare issues such as dog fighting and breed specific legislation, animal cruelty cases in Western Australia, research studies including IQ testing of dog and cat owners, and strange cases of puppies born with green fur.
On our forums, there were a variety of topics being discussed. Health issues, such as constipation in dogs, and renal disease were on the table, along with behavioural complaints, such as incontinence in cats, and nutritional queries, including whether or not we should feed sardines to pets.
We bought you some heartwarming videos, including a fantastic one of a daschund playing in the snow, and an exceptionally cute compilation of videos of dogs stealing cat’s beds. Events such as ‘Take your dog to work day’ were featured on the site, and we offered some useful infographics on treatment options for osteoarthritis in pets, and winter tips for pets.
Our partners, including Sydney University in particular, kept us up to date with all that’s happening in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, and we welcomed Guide Dogs NSW/ACT to our partnership community.
Finally, the team of Veterinarians reviewed a bunch of pet products related to the chilly winter weather, such as thundercoats, and the surprising world of doggie umbrellas.
All in all, we had a fantastic time with the Vetico community, discussing everything about Winter and your furry family. And as a reward to the Vetico team, we were featured in the June Edition of the leading Veterinary Industry magazine, "The Vet Practice"
This month, however, we will be focussing the discussions around the theme of “A Dummies Guide to Pets”. We hope to use this month, to remind the Vetico community of all the important things you need to remember to be a responsible pet owner.
Via our blogging community, we will be bringing you articles on topics including behavioural changes to your desexed pets, the differences between preventatives in treating worms, fleas and ticks on your pets, and the legalities of pet registration in Australia.
We’ll be writing up checklists for puppy preschool, recommending boarding facilities in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, reviewing the value of pet insurance in Australia, and looking at the pro’s and con’s of harnesses vs leads.
Our news team will keep you up to date with all of the pet news from Australia and around the world. This includes random news stories such as a Great Dane that recently learnt sign language, to animal welfare issues such as racing greyhound euthanasia problems, and even the obscure story of a cat that got stuck in the coil of a jeep!
There will be a bunch of helpful articles written for the benefit of our community, including tips on how to prevent heartworm in dogs, advice on grooming your pet at home, and suggestions on how to pick the best Vet in your area. And of course, our fantastic partners will keep everyone up to date with what’s going on in the Veterinary schools, and animal welfare organisations of Australia, the WPA, and the much anticipated first blog by Guide Dogs NSW/ACT.
Our creative team will do their best to design some useful infographics on pet ownership, will keep you up to date with any relevant calendar events, and of course there is always the Vetico Pet of the Wk competition you can enter each week, for your chance to win a fantastic prize courtesy of IdPet.
This month, we are also excited to tell everyone we have started 2 new blogs which we are certain will be very popular within our community. The first blog is called, Why does my? In this blog, we encourage everyone to finish the sentence, why does my …..?, so we can endeavor to answer one of these questions each week.
We’ve also started a blog called, Pet Parent Asks, where we again encourage you to send in your questions so we can answer them each week. This month, we answer the questions, “Why do Vets cost so much money? And “How do I know how often I need to exercise my dog?”
And of course, there are always the FREE forums armed with our team or Vets and Experts ready to answer your questions. So get excited everyone, for this month’s theme “Dummies Guide to Pets”, on Vetico, your favourite pet health lifestyle website.
